There is so much suffering in this world — hunger, poverty, disease, death, divorce, violence, sorrow…Suffering is a part of life. But many of us elude suffering, we only observe it remotely.
Job suffered like none other of his time.
Why is there suffering?
• Suffering happens as a consequence of our sins, and when we lose connection with God — Romans 1: 20 – 26.
• Suffering happens because of God’s compassionate disciplining through hardship to help us grow and be stronger — Hebrews 12: 5 – 7 and James 1: 2 – 3.
• Suffering happens because through the sufferer, God may want to save others’ lives and teach them something, as in the story of Joseph.
In Job 38, God emphasizes that He is sovereign and that His ways cannot be questioned.
God does not want to see you suffer and suffers even more Himself when you do. But when you are a believer, God may sometimes use you for His cosmic purpose, to make a point to others. Be willing to let God use you and be strong in the faith, knowing that God is wise and all-powerful.
